Gulf fishing rules to be reviewed

D'IBVERVILLE, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources will study proposed regulations that fishermen claim will further limit the take of red snapper, amberjack and grouper in the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi Press in Pascagoula reports that members of the Mississippi Charter Boat Captains Association asked the commission on Tuesday to support bills in Congress to delay the stricter catch limits. Commission chairman Vernon Asper asked the department's staff to study the bills to see if the commission can support them. Asper says it goes against my nature to oppose a regulation that is intended to preserve, in the long run, a fishery.
