EOCC to get a new name

Denise Bradberry

All of the campuses of Enterprise-Ozark Community College could see some big changes by the Spring semester. For years, leaders with the Enterprise-Ozark Community College have discussed separating the Enterprise Campus from the aviation campuses and renaming it the Alabama Aviation College. As of November 12th they have withdrawn those plans. “With years of proration and looking at the growth of aviation industry a more prudent use of the tax payer funds would be to create an umbrella institution which the board has decided to do which will be Enterprise State Community College,” says EOCC President Dr. Nancy Chandler They will simply change the name of the aviation campuses in Ozark, Mobile, Andalusia and Albertville to the Alabama Aviation Center. The Enterprise and Fort Rucker campuses will now be Enterprise State Community College. “We think that is a much better use of funds. The idea of creating a separation entity for aviation will help the state recruiting new business and industry,” says Chandler. Very few of the students we talked to in Enterprise were concerned about the change. “It’s really not going to affect the students that much, it's just a name so I’m all for it,” says Enterprise campus student John Wayne Lambert. “I don't really feel like I’m affected by it,” says Enterprise campus student Abigail Averett. Students on the aviation campuses are looking forward to the change. “They’re very proud of the fact that their degree will be granted from a center that reflects aviation,” says Chandler. Enterprise State Community College will keep the old logo, but the Alabama Aviation Center will get all new branding this Spring. The approval process for the name change should be completed by December 4th.
