SOMERVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A Morgan County prosecutor says a
Somerville woman on trial for murder strangled and poisoned her
mentally disabled nephew to collect his Social Security checks.

Assistant District Attorney Paul Matthews told a jury Monday that 45-year-old Geneva Lenox Denson and Martha Evelyn Routh, who is also mentally disabled, put 32-year-old Ronnie Lee Goree's remains in a cave.

Goree lived next door to Denson in a mobile home with Routh, who
pleaded guilty to manslaughter during a hearing last week and received 15 years in prison. Denson was the payee on Goree's checks and she continued to receive them after his 2001 disappearance.

But Denson's lawyer, Hubert Porter, argued that the checks were
irrelevant and that it made no sense for anyone to want to "kill a golden goose."
