GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - Police say officers fatally shot a
40-year-old Gadsden man who apparently tried to attack them after
stabbing his girlfriend and her son.
The Etowah County Coroner's Office identified the suspect who
was shot early Wednesday as Sedrick Bernard Cox.
Capt. Roy Harbin said police responded to a call between 5 a.m.
and 6 a.m. to a home in East Gadsden. Cox ran from the home when
officers arrived, but they were able to follow a blood trail and
found him in a patch of woods behind a house about two blocks away.
Harbin said officers shot Cox after he apparently tried to
attack them with a knife.
The woman and her son were taken to the hospital with serious
injuries.
Harbin said the Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating
the shooting.
