Former Phenix City, Ala., city manager James Grady McCalmon has died at the age of 76.

Former Phenix City, Ala., city manager James Grady McCalmon has died at the age of 76.
McCalmon, who as city manager from 1990 to 1996 spearheaded construction of the Phenix City Amphitheater and Riverwalk, died Monday night in a Rome, Ga., hospital after "an extended illness," according to the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home in Summerville, where the Cloudland, Ga., resident was serving as city manager.
The funeral was Thursday at the Cloudland Presbyterian Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
