MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Stephen Black, who was the Democratic nominee for state treasurer in 2002, and Republican state Rep. Jeremy Oden of Vinemont said they received lots of encouragement to run, but
decided against it.

Oneonta attorney Jeremy Sherer said he had considered running for state auditor as a Democrat against Republican incumbent Samantha Shaw, but he switched to the treasurer's race when Black decided not to run. Sherer plans to kick off his campaign on Monday.

Until Sherer's decision, the only announced candidate was
Republican Terry Dunn, a general contractor from Southside who
entered the race in early June.
