MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Closing arguments have ended in the state of Alabama's lawsuit against a California-based drugmaker accused of cheating the state's Medicaid program out of millions of dollars.
State attorney Jere Beasley told jurors Wednesday that Watson Pharmaceuticals purposefully overcharged Alabama from 1991 to 2005
and owes the state $23 million.
But an attorney for Watson argued that the state knew for more than a decade that what it was being charged wasn't the wholesale acquisition price.
Montgomery County Circuit Judge Charles Price will turn the case over to the jury of 10 women and three men for the start of deliberations.
Watson is one of more than 70 pharmaceutical companies Alabama
Attorney General Troy King sued over pricing allegations in 2005.
