The Houston County Commission will vote next week on a Paupers Cemetery in the county.

County Administrator Bill Dempsey says there is a growing need for burial sites for the counties desceased that are listed as indigent.

The proposal would place an indigent burial site near Columbia.

In the past Houston County has paid for indigent county residents burial costs but that cost has risen in recent years as has the number of deaths.

The commission will vote on the Paupers Cemetery item early next week.
