The highest-ranking openly gay official in President Obama's administration says “the climate for passing gay civil rights laws has never been better,” according to the Associated Press.
John Berry, however, reportedly, warned a group of gay-rights advocates Friday that if the opportunity is missed, it could be as long as a decade before another chance comes around. Berry is the director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
His speech before Out & Equal Workplace Advocates conference in Orlando comes a day before Obama is set to address the nation's largest gay rights group.
Obama is said to be taking a cautious approach to following through with campaign promises to end a ban on gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military and pushing tough nondiscrimination policies.
This information was published by the Associated Press today and it raises some interesting questions. What do you think? Should rights be equalized? Should the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy be kept in effect? What about the questions of marriage and adoption?

Everyone needs to open their eyes to the "SIGNS OF THE TIMES"; they are everywhere! People need to realize that even tho Obama had a white mother (no offense) he also had a Muslim father. His thinking is so far from the Bible now adays it is not even funny. My hat is off to EVERY comment made by Delsie. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA get on your knees before God and beg His mercy upon all before it is too late. Man/Woman is how we were created...KEEP IT THAT WAY! Military or otherwise! Posted by: Jerry Location: Midland city Thats a real interesting comment Don: don't try to force your lifestyle on the rest of us. But it's every other week that I have some christian or Morman or JW coming to my door and shoving there unprovable doctine in my face. Try not being a hyprocrite Posted by: Don Location: Ozark God created Adam and Eve, Sent them forth and told them to replenish the earth. It's a shame some individuals think they can change the natural order of man. We can learn a lesson from the animal kingdom. Do what you want, but don't try to force your lifestyle on the rest of us. Posted by: Delsie Location: Elba DO ANY OF YOU READ YOUR BIBLES AT ALL,OR DO THEY JUST SET SOMEWHERES ON A SHELF AND COLLLECT DUST? DON'T YOU KNOW WHAT GOD SAYS IN HIS WORD ON HOW HE IS GOING TO DESTROY SIN AND SINNERS ALIKE!!! WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK THAT HE SAID IT IN HIS WORD JUST TO BE BLOWING HOT AIR OR SOMETHING.BUT TO ME THIS IS JUST ANOTHER SIGN ON JUST HOW REALLY CLOSE WE ARE AT GODS RETURN. AS IT WAS IN THE DAYS OF NOAH SO SHALL IT BE AT MY RETURN.. OR BETTER YET ANSWER THIS QUETION, WHY DID GOD DESTROY SODOM AND GOMORRAH... ANSWER, GENESIS(thats funny very FIRST book of the Bible)CHAPTER 19 VERSE 5 SAYS THAT BEFORE LOT AND HIS FAMILY COULD LAY DOWN FOR THE NIGHT,THAT THE PEOPLE FROM THAT TOWN CAME BOTH YOUNG AND OLD,AND MORE OR LESS WANTED LOT TO TURN OVER THE MEN (ANGELS THAT HAD VISITED LOT TO WARN ABOUT DESTUCTION)SO THEY COULD KNOW THEM (AND THEY WERE NOT TALKING ABOUT HAVING A CUP OF COFFE). LOT WAS WILLING TO GIVE UP HIS DAUGHTERS TO SATISFY THE EVIL THIS TOWN HAD PLANNED.PEOPLE NEED TO OPEN THEIR EYES Posted by: JANNELL Location: Dothan I think it's rather pathetic, that gay and lesbian persons, feel that they don't have any rights. First of all as long as we are a free country in America, I believe that he have a specified contract called the Bill Of Rights, and this extends to all people. Why on earth would you prefer to be treated indifferent than the rest of the country, or rather the rest of us is rediculous. I belive that all Americans no matter what color, or gender, religion, or even preferred sexual partner should be treated any different than anyone else. I do belive that we all have the right to our own sexual preference, but however don't be so indulgent as to ask the rest of the world to step aside, so that you can be treated any differently than the rest of us. Seems to me that to fight for gay rights only means that you as gay people are truely not comfortable living in your own lifestyle that each of you have chosen. This is the real world folks, you can change your world, but don't change mine. Posted by: jake Location: hartford they just need to put the gays in seperate units, they need to consider then seperate sex..we would not make male and female use same bathrooms, showers, barracks, etc. Posted by: don Location: Alabama It is an unfortunate fact that openly gay and lesbian orientations will create problems any and all services. It doesn't have anything to do with rights it corresponds to basic human instincts. The Army developed "core values" Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage the primary reason for identifying these values is because the Army is having issues with values in the military. Respondents that say they don't understand simply lack the understanding of what problems exist in the implementation of a openly gay military. This is not a new problem and was an issue when I went into the Army in 1965. Then the men were separate from the women during traing and service. Gays were not tolerated by the soldiers. This wiil not occur just because someone legislates it. You have to live it in the field. Posted by: faye Location: samson, al I dont understand why everyone has a problem with gays in the military if they want to go and fight for our country they should have the right to do so. we are all created by the same god and we are taught everyone are created equal what makes them any different from anyone we all bleed red Posted by: Jessica Location: Dothan Just wanted to point out to Will that straight men wear pink all the time. You are acting as all the men and women in our military are as close-minded and ignorant as you, most, I am happy to say, are not. You think because a person does something that you do not agree with that they are automatically wrong? Just like you have the choice of joining the military so should they, what makes them any different than you? Their blood is the same color and they love this country just as much as you do. Posted by: will Location: alabama can someone tell me when there was a law passed giving gays rights- it is a gay right request, they should keep the right to remain silent, as of now they are still treated like out cast- rightfully so- could you imagine our military in pink,if gays are allowed in the military I can see more harm than good- who is going to answer for the violence and division sure to follow among our proud armed forces maybe we should even change the uniform to show gay or not- this can actually happen.. go Obama Posted by: kathy Location: geneva Its about time . them men and women serve this fine country , it should not matter what their orientation is ....They lay their lifes on the line, do you realy think the opposite side is asking " are you gay or strait befor they shoot " |
