Hello All! 

First of all, I apologize for not blogging in a bit. I was off all week and tried to stay as far away from a computer as possible!! Well, are we tired of this insane heat yet? Ya know, our actual temperatures would not be near as bad if we didn't have such <b>high dewpoints!!</b> WIth dewpoints in the low to mid 70's, those upper 90's temps FEEL more like 105-110. We have yet to have a heat advisory issued, but if they issue one, it will be in the next two days when we top out with ACTUAL temps quite possibly hitting the century mark!! A heat advisory for the wiregrass warrants a heat index or actual temp of 110 or higher.

The south all the way from the desert southwest to here has been plagued for the last 10 days or so with this stagnant heat...but there is hope looming on the horizon for low 90's (seasonal!!) next week. 

So I was thinking as I drove to work today, with beads of sweat dripping from my forehead (my poor Honda does not have the best air conditioning), what are some unique and different ways to try and stay cool this time of year? School is out and its almost too hot to want to spend ANY time outside! When I was a kid, I helped combat the heat with treats like frozen juice boxes or Capri Sun drinks. I would freeze them, and then cut the tops off and eat them like popsicles. It certainly was a lot more fun than guzzling water, and I still do it every now and then. Also, if you're like me and you have a lousy AC either in your car or house, buy a spray bottle, fill it to the top with ice cubes and then top it off with water. Every time you feel like you're overheating...give yourself a little cool mist!! I would especially reccomend this if you're working outdoors.

If I had to do any gardening or lawn work in this extreme heat, I would invest in what's called a Camelpack. Basically its a lightweight neoprene soft back pack that has a bag in it, and a tube that connects over the shoulder to suck on. It's essentially a mobile water bottle you can forget you're even holding. They were designed for atheletes, but I think they would get a lot of use around here. You can pick them up at sporting goods stores around the area.

 We have to deal with these temperatures through the remainder of the week, with little chance for rain aside from a stray pop-up, isolated seabreeze shower, but rain and cooler temperatures look promising for early/mid next week. I'll be home for the first time in 16 months in Connecticut next week. I hope the rain has finally let up there, so I can play my first ever round of golf with my stepmom. I am looking forward to walking my dogs back home as well, and of course dinner with the family on the outdoor patio!
