If you're like me, then you might be feeling constantly just a slight bit behind with technology all the time. I'm the girl that had the Nokia "brick" phone while Blackberrys and iPods were debuting. (While I still do not have one I DO now have a phone complete with texting and photo capabilities...but I am still behind the times with internet on my phone). It's slightly embarrassing that my station has provided the text alert capability for months now, and I myself just learned how to sign up and use it...there are currently close to 1,000 people who have done this before me. So below I have listed the directions for YOU to...if you so chose to accept this mission...receive mobile text alerts on your cell phone. You can get sports, breaking news, and weather alerts, or if you're like me, want to KISS (keep it simple, sweetheart)...here is how you get them. STEP 1: Log on to www.wtvy.com (you can do this on your computer or if you're a real show off, log on to the internet and do it via your phone) STEP 2: Take a sip of coffee while you wait for your rediculously slow web browser to load (maybe this is just me) STEP 3: On the tool bar on the top of the page, go to where it says STATION, and under the options listed below, select TEXT ALERTS STEP 4: Once that page loads you will see in the middle of your screen an option that says Sign Up for Text Alerts click here! (no you will not receive junk email or solicitations or pop-ups...always a worry of mine) STEP 5: When that page loads, in red letters it will say Sign Up, to which you will click, enter your cell phone number that you wish to receive texts to (or someone you don't like and click every update available hehehe) and create your password. Easy enough so far..the next step is where I got confused STEP 6:On that same page you will then pick and chose which updates you want sent to your phone. Origionally I had only clicked SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS...and then selected which counties I wanted to know about. What this does is send you verbatim what the national weather service puts out, for instance "A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued in Coffee County until 3:30 That's fine and dandy, but for some reason I was not receiving the personalized more in depth weather texts that I was writing to be sent as a text.....to get more than just the severe weather alerts...and what I think is personally more in depth and important (because Connor, Oscar and myself write them, duh :) you MUST also select under NEWS ALERTS, the box that says BREAKING NEWS. You have to bite the bullet and get an occasional breaking news text, but all of the personalized weather alerts are sent under breaking news.
So now that you're utterly confused, you can email me at martha@wtvy.com for more help. And if you got this done smoothly, you're more technologically savvy than I am. Congradulations! Hope you look foreward to my text alerts! |
