LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Authorities in Lakeland say they have located a 78-year-old Alzheimer's patient who walked away from his home and did not return.
According to a news release, Lakeland police found Oscar Nieves in a lake Saturday morning. He was reported missing Friday night, and authorities believe he had been in the water for about 10 hours.
Nieves, who was pale and shivering when he was pulled from the water, is receiving treatment for hypothermia and is expected to recover.
Authorities launched pontoon boats for the search and combed through rough terrain near Nieves' home. The Polk County Sheriff's Office also used a helicopter and K-9 bloodhounds to help find Nieves.
