Jury Rules Police Officer Violated Vegans' Rights
ATLANTA (AP) - A federal court jury has found that a DeKalb County police officer violated the rights of two vegans who were arrested after they protested outside a HoneyBaked Ham store.

ATLANTA (AP) - A federal court jury has found that a DeKalb County police officer violated the rights of two vegans who were arrested after they protested outside a HoneyBaked Ham store.
The jury on Thursday found that DeKalb County Officer David Gorman acted with "malice of reckless indifference" to the rights of Caitlin Childs and Christopher Freeman.
But the jury awarded only $4 in damages to Childs and Freeman.
The jury awarded $1 in compensatory damages and $1 in punitive damages for Childs and the same for Freeman.
The incident occurred in December 2003 when 10 to 20 vegans protested outside the HoneyBaked Ham store on Buford Highway.
Childs and Freeman were arrested after they wrote down the license plate number of a car with Gorman inside taking pictures.
