Hartford Police have a possible motive behind last week's shooting that left one man injured.

Police found Gregory Hatcher shot twice and lying in a cotton field on Recreation Park Road.

He had told investigators that he did not want to press charges.

Police say Hathcher organized with an associate to shoot him last week.

Investigators say it was in attempt to gain sympathy from his family.

Police Chief Nick Finer said charges will not be filed against the victim or shooter so the family can move forward.

I think what has happened is stupid,, the people of Hartford was worried someone was walking around with a gun, how can Greg have done this to his family ,, mainly Jessi, I know people have problems BUT there is so many ways to get help all you do is ask!! i think Greg should have to pay for the Dothan police that helped in the case and the Hartford police dept seeing how they were out trying to find a shooter in all the while Greg had it done, what kind of Christmas would Jessi have had if her father died from something that could should have never happened.. Yes him and his wife might have problems that is easier for a child to deal with than loosing a parent to death!!!!!!!!

I know the Hatcher family and I think the best thing we as a community can do is stop the gossip and pray for Greg as well as his daughter and wife. We are so quick to talk about everything somebody is doing wrong in our eyes just so we do not have to deal with our own wrong doing. Greg has done so much in our town to help in so many different areas, from the rec park to the school, spending so much of his TIME doing things that none of us were willing to do. No matter if you liked or disliked the Hatcher's before this happened, it's only by the grace of God that you are blessed enough not to have to be in a place like they are in right now. None of us have lived perfect lives and never done any thing wrong, and right now we need to show Greg, Marcia and especially Jessi how much we love them and that we will help them get through this no matter who has done what. We need to love them like Jesus. Please let's think about Jessi and give this child some peace at Christmas.

Until you've walked a mile in the shoes of another, don't be so quick to judge...

Lets not be to quick to judge; emontional strain can be and is a tramatic time. From all thinga bad good things are born. God bless the family and Mr. Hatcher. I know how he feels and some of the thoughts and things he is going thru. Been there done that.

Actually, people under pressure do some pretty drastic things to "get noticed", as a prior posted so sympathetically expressed. People who need help and who may have exhausted all other avenues sometimes need to resort to drastic measures. When writing people who can help, asking for help, or seeking help in general just doesn't work, and others just refuse to listen or even bother to acknowledge, sometimes, this is what happens. We shouldn't be so quick to judge, for we don't walk in their shoes. Sometimes we have to reach the bottom to be able to resurface, float, and then survive.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. He could have died. The things people do these days to get noticed is ridiculous.
