One Wiregrass family is searching for answers after thousands of dollars worth of cattle were stolen from them.

Barbara Fitzpatrick and her father Huey have had their farmland and cattle in their family for generations, giving them another source of income.

Huey Fitzpatrick said, "I use the cows to put the money on them, you know what I mean. When I sell them I take the money to the bank and pay them off."

That’s why they were disturbed to find out a number of the cattle had been stolen.

The family also discovered another family member's hogs had been slaughtered.

Barbara says there are other cattle in the area and feels her family is the primary target. "My thing is just like I said, it’s more than my daddy has cattle up this way; a lot of people that have them up this way. Why would they want to target him?"

The family believes about eight cows were taken sometime last week; they were worth more than $2000 dollars.

Barbara says she doesn't know who's doing this, but she's taking immediate action. "What [we’re going to] do now, we [are] just gonna’ get it investigated so we can find out who's doing this, and who's behind this because I heard some people say there's a lot of people's talkin’ about it. It was somebody up in the way in Coffee Springs."

For now, the family is locking up tight and keeping a close eye on their farm.

Barbara says this is not the first time something like this has happened. Just last year they had three of their livestock stolen.

The Fitzpatrick's have contacted the police and the case is under investigation.
