Shark experts are trying to figure out what's going on after two separate shark attacks off Panhandle beaches since the weekend began.

The most recent attack happened Monday at Cape San Blas on Saint Joseph’s Peninsula.

Sources say the victim is 16-year-old Craig Hutto from Lebanon, Tennessee.

The teenager was fishing with friends on a sandbar, about 50-yards from shore when the shark grabbed his right thigh, nearly severing his leg.

Hutto’s two friends tried to get the shark to let go, hitting it on the nose several times as it bit his left hand.

Hutto was taken to a nearby hospital and then flown to Bay Medical Center.

Doctors had to amputate his leg and he is now in stable condition with severe injuries.

He was in town fishing and vacationing with friends. Family members arrived late Monday afternoon.
