Country Crossing Doesn't Cross Over Without Bingo
Thursday, local religious and business leaders held a meeting to discuss their feelings about electronic bingo coming to Houston County. A charity bingo facility is planned to be built within the Country Crossing entertainment project.

I think the Country crossing sucks. It will help a county. If they can get Bingo why cant the state get Lottery & help the state. not just a town & a county. Suprised @ the Commisioners being so self centered Instead of trying to help the state. Neither do I agree with the Indians haveing Bingo. Paper Bingo only; Hope it falls to the bottom. I dont live In Houston county are Dothan, Al. Unfortunate it does get my money for shopping & Dr. For most all things. Want to let people know how I feel about the Bingo//Country Crossing. Hope it falls through.Have a vote on it.State vote;.

On the proposed bingo-I am one of those citizens who feels we have enough problems to straighten out without adding more traffic and more crime to the area. We need to get these issue settled. I for one like our smaller town atmosphere. I don't care to be another Mobile, Montgomery, or Birmingham.

Where was all these people when they open Out on a Whim. What ever it is called. It is on 52 inside of the circle. Have you ever been in the back room and seen all the trash they sell in there. I have no use for it. But there are people that like it. So who am I to tell them they are wrong in selling it. Just like bingo. The holy rollers say they don't like it. Well hear this I love God and my county. And guess what.I love BINGO. And I have been known to go bet on a dog or two at the Ebro, Does that mean I will go to he** I DON'T THINK SO. Am I a HYPOCRITE. No God knows what I do and so does anyone else that know me. So get over your self and let the bingo come to Dothan. I will be there playing

Country Crossings will promote revenue starting in 2009 was my Commissioners take on our children and drugs in the houston county schools we need a resource officer now not 2009. If this project is shot down will the Commissioners not stand up for our future our children. Why should they be put second to anything in this county. The commission and the sheriff needs to worry about what is going on in these schools verses bingo. The Children are the future. Gangs and Drugs need to be stopped before they get any worse.

This is just so backwards, The churches don't want people playing bingo anywhere else. Just like the state they don't want open bingo or a lottery, yet let someone win and who has their hands out, the church for 10% and the state for their income tax. We live in one of the richest states but have a very poor tax support for education. With proper application of the income from bingo or a lottery, we could have better trained officers, and better schools, let alone a better standard of living for our residents. Thus lowering the crime rate. Come on Dothan get into the 21st century, its no longer the 1800's

I do not live right in Houston County but I know that this place can bring in the jobs we need to keep our young folks in the area to raise their families. I also see a lot of farmers stopping working the land. If we do not bring in some jobs all we are going to have is empty churches and empty towns. So instead of coming at it with saying that this will bring in more sin (which by the way it is all here already) how about addressing the sinners with the gospel. Maybe even having a dinner theater that features country gospel music to listen to while you digest the fruits of our Father's bounty.

If some of the people in Dothan think that everything is so "pristine and pure" from the taint of gambling and crime, they are mistaken. Bingo at this place isn't going to make any difference because the people who are going to gamble will someplace, and the criminals will commit crime someplace regardless of bingo at this place. And it is to benefit charities. You take a gamble at church bazaars...you buy something you gamble you will like it even tho you bought it because it was a church fundraiser. And about crime...I knew someone who embezzeled from a church...luckily, he was caught.

Why would any worth while politician care what the people think anyway!!!!,,None of them have up to this point in time!!!,,,Let the people that have to live with this decision VOTE on the issue that is the best way to decide if Houston County is ready for the side effects of a Branson type culture.

I don't think you really know what you are talking about. You should read more about Country Crossings before you open your mouth and insert your foot.

I GET SO SICK AND TIRED OF THE RELIGIOUS HYPOCRITES ATTEMPTING TO TELL ME HOW TO LIVE MY LIFE, IN A FREE COUNTRY!! I understand why they were thrown to the Lions. Enough is enough now! Stay in your churches and rule over your flock, I find all of you so call "Christians" intolerant of everything that doesn't concern you-mind your own business! It will be a crying shame if we allow this Taliban tribe to derail a project with such promise to enhance many of our lives. Growth comes with growing pain,ok. Crime? Now that's something you all need to pray over because it's getting bad with or without Country Crossing. I love GOD and I've learn to do his will and that's not playing chicken with the Train of progress. The world is changing preachermen, let us live free. I have just return from Afghanistan fighting a religious group gone unchecked for years, and if we continue giving in to you "Christians" we will eventually have to fight that battle here...enough said. There are already strip clubs and bars in Houston County so how does that play into this equation...? It's time for people of the Wiregrass to stand up and speak up. That is why the supposed mouth pieces of the churches are getting the attention, they are going to the county commission and speaking out. If you are for Country Crossing, make sure your county commissioners know. Be a mouthpiece as well. Personally I'm tired of religious leaders thinking they are somehow the mouthpiece for the community and community leaders just because they are preachers. Hey, ya'll don't want them? We've got 231 in Troy, come to Pike County, I'm sure our citizens and commission would welcome the income and jobs that are going to come with it.
