A long sought project will now become reality for one Wiregrass school district.

Construction officially got underway on a 10-million dollar Opp Elementary School.

Last year, the Opp City Council approved a 1-cent sales tax increase to fund construction of the school which will replace South Highlands Elementary.

A 50-year-old school plagued over recent years by water leaks and building mold.

The new school is scheduled to open in August, 2009.
