FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - Severe weather moved through northwest Alabama today overturning a mobile home and damaged a house and
another structure near the Oakland community.

George Grabryan, emergency management director in Lauderdale County, said there were no confirmed twisters. But the National Weather Service said winds gusted to 60 miles per hour. Some wind
damage was also reported in Marion County.

At least 15 Alabama school systems released students early because of the threat of severe weather.

Counties in northwest Alabama and northeast Mississippi remain under tornado watches or warnings until at least mid afternoon. Forecasters said storms could intensify as temperatures rise this afternoon.

Authorities in Mississippi say an apparent tornado damaged a shopping mall in Tupelo. There have been no reports of injuries.
