Police say a woman crashed into a tree after falling asleep behind the steering wheel.

It happened around 8 AM Monday on Columbia Highway in Dothan.

Police say after the woman awoke and noticed traffic stopped in her lane. She swerved to miss, run off the road and hit a tree.

Fortunately, neither she nor her son were injured in the wreck.

But after police arrived on scene they noticed they had to monitor another aspect of the accident.

The tree that the truck is up against is a dead tree and we hear it rubbing up against the tree. We're worried the tree might fall. So, we're going to try to get the vehicle out. Then, we're going to assess the situation with the tree and go from there" says Sgt. Tim Ward, with Dothan Police Department.
