A three-week drug investigation culminated over the weekend. It resulted in one of the largest drug confiscations in recent history in Houston County.

Two individuals from Slocomb, 29-year-old Larrick Rowe and 18-year-old Crystal Copeland, were tracked to a hotel suite off Montgomery Highway in Dothan where the two were converting cocaine into crack.

"They were in the process of converting the cocaine hydrochloride, which is the powder cocaine into crack cocaine. Some of this is actually [was] converted; you can see this one cookie is already converted into crack cocaine," said Sheriff Andy Hughes with Houston County.

The sheriff said unfortunately, there was another individual in the room at the time of the bust. The 15-month-old baby girl of the two suspects was also in the suite, without the protection from fumes her father had.

"[There was] a mask to protect himself from cocaine vapors while he was converting the cocaine into crack, and yet they had a small child in the room with no protection whatsoever," Sheriff Hughes added.

Sheriff’s office officials say the bust is indicative of the demand for cocaine in Houston County and in Dothan, and the only way to fight that is to limit the supply as well.

"[There is] a substantial amount of cocaine for this area. We do have these large amounts of cocaine coming into the Dothan, Houston County area; it's just a matter of getting the information to seize these amounts of drugs."

Copeland and Rowe are charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, as well as the chemical endangerment of a child. Both have bonds of $1 million dollars.
