A two-year-old boy drowned in a Dothan apartment complex pond Wednesday morning.

The toddler was found in a pond around 6:30AM in the back of the Sweetwater Apartment Complex and identified as Andrew Weed.

His parents, Andrew and Jennifer Weed, live in the complex next to the pond.

Police say it appears the boy wandered away from home.

According to Coroner Robert Byrd, the parents noticed the front door was open and noticed the boy missing.

After talking with neighbors outside, thr mother found her son lying in the pond about 50 feet from shore.

According to the preliminary autopsy report, the child was probably in the water for no more than 20 minutes.

The boy was taken to Flowers Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sweetwater Apartment owners did not want to make a comment on camera, but they did issue this statement: "All of the staff at Sweetwater Apartments is deeply saddened by this tragedy and their thoughts and prayers go out to the family."

It is not clear if they will take any additional action such as adding fences around their ponds.

Andrew and Jennifer Weed also have a nine-month-old daughter. She was reportedly in the house at the time of the incident.

This is a very tragic accident. As a mother of two young children, I can only imagine what you are going through. Rick Burgess and his family went through a very similar situation. I think the Lord can speak to the Weed family through the Burgess incident. Please go to the Rick and Bubba website. I feel you will be blessed by Rick's great testimony during his time of tragedy at the drowning of his 3 year old son, Bronnor.

I am sorry for your loss. I am thankful to read over the comments and see such a passionate and faithful to Christ group. God will surely support your family during these times. You will feel very challenged over the next few months and I can only hope that you will be able to hold onto your faith and continue to a good parent to your other child. In addition, I'd also like to say that I also feel that the apt. complex is partially responsible for not having some type of fence off apt patio's or guarding the waters. Homeowners in residential neighborhoods are required by law to fence in swimming pools--why aren't apt complexes required to guard waters?
