There are birds, crafts, and games. But that's just a fraction of what you'll find at the Wiregrass Adult Day Care Center.

The Wiregrass ADC specializes in caring for older Wiregrass residents with special needs.

As coordinator of the Wiregrass ADC, Mona Meadows helps put on the activities at the center. But she also sees the struggle it takes to make enough money for those activities.

"The funds are not quite enough to provide the transportation, the meals, nurse assessments that are done twice a month. We just don't have enough," says Mona Meadows, Coordinator of Adult Day Care.

Wiregrass ADC gets the majority of its money from the Alabama Department of Public Health, SARCOA, and the Department of Human Resources. But now, some of that funding is looking to be cut.

"It's so very important to have the Adult Day Care Centers because a lot of these people live alone. If we didn't have the adult day care program, they would stay at home all day and all night, right by themselves. With them coming to the Adult Day Care Program, they have companionship, they have meals, they have activities. So, it's just a much more meaningful atmosphere," says Meadows.

Leaders at the Wiregrass ADC are looking to state legislatures for monetary help. So it can keep its basic rate per day at $25.

The facility runs from Monday through Friday. It includes two hot meals, one snack, transportation and activities.

If you'd like information on how you can help, call Mona Meadows at 792-0022.

Use some of that 1% tax to fund this operation! I'd suppor the 1 % increase if it was funding such, but those hypocrits that approved this tax increase just wanted deeper wallets! They want to help? Let them send checks to you every month! This is a good cause!
