Fire fighters responded to a call on the 600 block of Dusy Street around 4:53 a.m. Monday morning.
Residents at the Dusy Street apartments rushed out of their units just before the blaze engulfed the building.
Witnesses say upwards of ten people were inside at the time of the fire including one infant.
All of them were able to exit safely.
Many of them credit their lives to Eddie Draughtone, a wheelchair bound man, for waking them up and directing them to safety.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
The building's owner lost a similar building in a fire back in March.
