You now have one more reason to buckle those seat belts. Law enforcement nationwide is cracking down on seat belt violators.

Before you start that key, be sure to buckle up.

It’s Click It or Ticket time, and if you get caught without your seat belt, you will pay.

"Some of the fatalities are ejections, when people are thrown from the vehicle. It's not just injured or killed inside the vehicle. They're actually ejected, where a seat belt would've prevented it," says Chief Deputy Don Valenza, with the Houston County Sheriff's Office.

News 4 spent about five minutes at one popular Dothan intersection, studying just two lanes of traffic to see how many seat belt violators we could find.

We spotted at least six with our cameras.

What may start out as a simple seat belt violation could turn into a larger infraction.

"At that point, they'll check others; driver's license, proof of insurance. If they don't have these items also, they could be charged," added Chief Deputy Valenza.

Adding just one more reason to click it.

The campaign runs through June 1st.

Why don't they enforce children being in back seat if under 12 or under a certain height/weight? Furthermore, what about the number of adults allowing their children to ride without a proper car seat much less a seatbelt! Enforce that too!
