The Walton County Board of County Commissioners has declared May 19 - 26, National Beach Safety week for the beaches of south Walton.

The week will focus on the importance of abiding by the flag warning system.

When a red flag is flying, knee deep is too deep, as dangerous rip currents can form at anytime if there is a break in the sandbar.

If a double red flag is flying, the water is closed for swimming.

Lifeguards are currently stationed at eight regional beach accesses in south Walton from 10am until 6 pm.

Free beach kits are available through September at the beaches of south Walton visitor services center, at the corner of Highway 98 and Highway 331 South.
