Alabama Attorney General Troy King announced the arrest of Covington County Probate Judge Sherrie Reid Phillips.
She is facing felony ethics and theft charges.
A grand jury handed down six-count indictment, including two counts of first-degree theft and two counts of intentionally using her public office for unlawful personal gain.
Phillips allegedly stole two checks from the State of Alabama, one for almost $4,000 and another for 1.8 million dollars.
If convicted, Phillips faces a maximum penalty of two to 20 years in prison and fines of up to 30,000 for each count.
Phillips surrendered to authorities at the Covington County Jail late Friday afternoon and released on a $250,000 bond.
