A Florida man, tased by a Houston County sheriff's deputy, was pronounced dead Friday morning, after being on life support for almost two weeks.

Twenty-seven-year-old Nicholas Cody was admitted into the hospital after being tased by a sheriff's deputy after he fled from them.

"The sheriff's office requested for an autopsy to be done. The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is still conducting its investigation into the incident itself, [and] still working on toxicology from urine and blood and stomach contents; until that's concluded that's where we sit at this point," said Capt. Tony Gonzalez with the Houston Co. Sheriff's Department.

On June 15th, sheriff’s deputies pulled over Cody for a traffic violation. He was tased after trying to run away, causing him to lose consciousness and was taken to the hospital.

Officials are looking to see if the tasing incident is connected in his death.

Houston County Coroner, Robert Byrd, said "Usually, it is associated; it's not the primary cause of death, but contributing."

Officials say Cody's body is being transported to Montgomery for an autopsy to determine his cause of death.

Cocaine was found in Cody’s vehicle and officials want to rule drugs out as contributing factor to his death.

"They'll look for other conditions also; he may have some kind of congenital heart problem. He could have a coronary disease, who knows, but any of those things could have contributed to his death, [which] will be looked at,” added Byrd.

Authorities say they're sure this incident will raise controversy about the taser; however, they say that's to be expected with many cases.

"Anytime use of force issues are brought in, whether it’s the taser, baton, capstone or your firearm, there's going to be controversy,” adds Capt. Tony Gonzalez

Authorities say this is the first time they have had to deal with death involving a taser.

They say they are working with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation to gather more information.

Officials say it will take a couple weeks before they receive information regarding Cody’s autopsy.

NICHOLAS was a labeled man, the police knew exactly who he was when they stopped him. we need justice, a young mans life is gone because the police want to prove a point. my concern is that do we have to worry about people that may be caught up in the system being tased because police want this person off the street so bad that they are willing to do whatever neccessary to get this person or people off the street. this is an outrage, i feel that when you become a police officer you need to be physically able to run behind a person, that is why you have radios and phones to call for backup, USE THEM! that is just like when you chase someone, what do you expect to happen, that everything is going to turn out good, noooooo. COPS NEED TO LEARN BETTER METHODS OF DEALING WITH SITUATIONS, OTHER THAN MAKING DUMB DECISIONS BECAUSE YOU CAN'T STAND THE FACT THAT SOMEONE MAKE GET AWAY FROM YOU,OR TRYING BE THE HERO.a man is gone because of his background and that is sad.GOD BLESS CODY FAMILY.

A Taser is a deadly weapon to some people with medical proplems. Our police offcers tend to abuse the use of it. When an offcer use the taser he is putting someone life in danger !!!
