The Ozark Police Department arrested 12 people in the past three days, continuing their efforts to rid the streets of drugs and crime.

Eleven-year-old Lashay Newsome and her brother play out in their yard daily and say they feel pretty safe. However, Thursday’s arrest just a few feet away may have changed their feelings.

"The police was down there and they had busted seven people and they had found something else in some bags," said Newsome.

Thursday's arrest of eight people was in part of Ozark Police Departments Narcotic Sweep. In the past three days, Ozark PD has arrested a total of 12 people.

"The last search warrant was executed yesterday on College Lane that resulted in the arrest of eight individuals for narcotic violations," said Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey.

He says Thursday’s arrests are proof the city is not going to slow down any time soon.

"There are a lot of narcotics that come into the area. Of course this is just our continuing effort to try to suppress that activity and rid the community of drugs," adds Chief Spivey.

Eva Currington lives down the street from the home where the suspects were arrested. She says it was a big surprise to hear of Thursday’s incident.

"It just makes me concerned on the way that we have to live now," says Currington.

That's exactly why Chief Spivey and his officers continue to crack down, trying to give Currington, Newsome and her brother a peaceful place to live.

Authorities confiscated about $200 worth of marijuana in the arrests.

They say these arrests are helping in other specific areas they are looking at.

Officials say the crack down on narcotics has a hand in lowering the amount of burglaries in the area.

i agree with steve. $200 worth of pot between 12 people? That's a big bust!! The cops need to be worried with the meth heads around here. it's a shame our tax money is going to arresting people over $200 of marijuana. if that's all they are worried about then they could just spend their time at the local high schools.

these arrests were for marijuana?? are you serious? and only $200 worth, that is anywhere from 1/2 ounce to an ounce of marijuana, and between 12 people I hardly think anyone deserves more than a slap on the wrist. If these were dangerous drugs that can kill and cause addiction and bankruptcy (cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, oxycontin, even vicodin and xanax) it would be one thing, but a half ounce of pot?? wow too bad the real drug users are getting by undetected, because meth is everywhere in the midwest, and cocaine and dangerous pills are too.
