It's an early start for many of us on a Saturday morning, but for democratic congressional candidate Bobby Bright, 8 o'clock breakfast ay Ray's means serious business.
“You know what the saying is- any person who wants to be influential and take the political route, goes through Ray's restaurant." Says Mayor Bobby Bright
While Ray's may be a great place to start, a trip to the farmer's market was step 2 on the list...
Which leads many district 2 residents to wonder how bright is going to support farmers.
Bobby Bright says “One of my select committees will be the agricultural committee when I get into congress and I hope to be able to make a difference and work with a majority party- control party to make sure that our farmers here are taken care of- and those state wide."
And sure, we know that mayor bright has done his part to support Maxwell Air force base in Montgomery, but could he protect Fort Rucker against base realignment and closure?
“I have some first hand experience when dealing with BRAC, making sure that when they make a recommendation that we oppose that recommendation to fight, very hard against it and change it when I know we are right, and I will do the same thing for ft. Rucker." Says Bright
The district 2 seat has been held by a republican for 44 years and some voters think a democrat winning the seat is impossible, but according to Bright- "I have never turned down a challenge- and just because it has been held by the republican party for 44 years, that does not sway me at all from making a good faith, serious effort to run and to do what I think is right for a district as a whole. Party labels do not mean anything to me. What does matter is to me is working together and moving our country forward."
Bright says he enjoyed his trip to the wiregrass, and while he may not have influence everyone, he has had an influence on some.
"We had a very good conversation I am impressed with his ideas and thought, we talked about fuel, energy, we talked about changing things in Washington, and it’s was a very delightful meeting.” Jearld Vinson, a local businessman.
After Mayor Bright finished his tour in Dothan, he went on to Daleville to VFW Post 6020.
He says another major issue he would like to work on is veteran support.
