Authorities say an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputy died Tuesday morning after the unit's special response team entered a home on Plymouth Avenue in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Authorities identified the gunman as 46-year-old Mark Reed
Rohlman.

Officials say they had been dealing with Rohlman since late Monday afternoon after serving a court order for involuntary examination under the Baker Act.

After several attempts to flee authorities Rohlman was apprehended and taken back to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

Authorities learned Tuesday morning Rohlman escaped again to a home on Plymouth Avenue in Fort Walton Beach, FL with a shotgun.

The Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team tried talking him out of the situation at around 6 o'clock Tuesday morning.

After no response the team went into the home where Rohlman shot Deputy Anthony Forgione. He pronounced dead at the hospital.

Forgione was the department's first officer to be killed while on duty. He was a former Fort Walton Beach police officer who was hired by the Okaloosa Sheriff's Department in 2005.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Michele Nicholson
said Forgione, 33, was married and had two young children.
