The Dixie area of downtown Dothan may be looking better these days. But violence still hangs over the Depot.

Early Tuesday morning, 34-year-old Marzine McMillian of Elba was shot in his side.

"It was one time; it appeared to be a shotgun loaded with bird shot."

McMillian was found in the parking area of the train depot, and luckily suffered non life threatening injuries.

According to police, even though this is the second shooting in Dixie this month, it isn't unusual to happen in the summertime.

"Its summer, people are more active, young adults and teenagers that don't have jobs are staying out late and they are more likely to get into a fight. There are a lot of factors involved; you cannot put geography on it."

Police say nighttime activity is high on the streets of Dixie especially on the weekends, and a large crowd of people means bigger opportunities for crime.

"Anytime you have a gathering of people, you're prone to having people fuss, fight, and sometimes it escalates to even worse that that," says Draughon.

Some Dixie visitors feel there needs to be different types of entertainment for young adults.

"I mean, the violence is increasing in Dothan and I think that young people need more activities to do so there wouldn't be as much violence," says Marcus Sampson who frequents Club Chole.

Meanwhile, investigators are trying to come up with a motive and find McMillian's shooter.

Police are asking anyone that may have information on this morning's shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 793-7000.

The thing to do is stay away from downtown Dothan. The police will always try to blame the weather, the seasons, lack of entertainment and the economy. What a joke! That area has been that way for years and I don't see any changes coming except to get worse.

Sounds like the Police are trying to justify the violence rather than try to stop it.
