In the near future, the cooking oil used in frying foods will power many of Enterprise's 200 vehicle motor fleet.
Next week, Mayor Kenneth Boswell will hold a forum for city restaurant operators. He will ask for their used cooking oil and grease, common by-products in the eatery business.
The mayor says it's a win-win. It will power vehicles and keep the material out of the wastewater system.
"To start a series of meetings, hopefully to get restaurants to provide us with their waste byproducts and use as fuel for our city," said Mayor Boswell.
For longtime Enterprise Restaurant Owner, Ron Jones, he is excited about the prospect of providing grease and other byproducts for fuel, and to help the environment.
"I think it's something to look at as far as providing a source for fuel and to keep the area clean without it going into our wastewater system," said Jones.
Morgan McCracken, heavy equipment operator, is excited about the prospect of fueling his truck on bio-diesel, getting away from foreign oil and at the same time, keeping the environment free of harmful grease.
"Anything to help reduce our reliance on foreign fuel is a good thing for sure," says McCracken.
Enterprise restaurant owners are being asked to meet next Tuesday at 9 a.m. at City Hall. Mayor Boswell is expected to map out his plan for the used cooking oil and grease.
