A look out the window of your car offers plenty of temptation when it comes to food. But, then there are other reminders that you're spending funds on other things.

What effect does this have on eateries, far away from populated areas like Dothan?

Danny Brady, with Danzey's Fast Food in Headland said, "People have really slowed down as far as coming out to eat; they're really being cautious about spending money because of the gas prices."

Danzey's has been in business out in Headland for most of 2008.

How are things on the other side of town on Highway 431 at Eldorado Steakhouse, where travelers through Headland are crucial?

Chuck Lueck, with the El Dorado Steakhouse says, "At my age, I've been through it several times. So, we know it's all going to pass at some point, it's just a question of how long and hopefully, it'll turn quickly."

Many think travel costs are a big part of the problem for local restaurants; but, even in some of the busiest streets of Dothan, businesses are still seeing the effects.

Becky Smith, with The Diner in Dothan, said, “When they do come in and eat, they don't leave tips like they used to either. It's still affecting us; we have good days and we have bad days.”

"Well, right now, they are really kind of confused; they're kinda’ up in the air about it because prices are still going up every day. I think they will settle down with it and start coming back to eat," Brady concludes.

Restaurant owners say one way they manage to bring customers in, is to keep their menus unique and offer items that are worth a special trip.
