Several families are without a home after fire roars through an apartment complex in the Wiregrass.
It happened just after 8 p.m. Tuesday night at the White Apartments, off Johns Street in Enterprise.
Firefighters were able to contain most of the damage to two of the six apartments.
The wood structure at one time was a barracks, which was converted into individual units in the 1980's.
Enterprise Fire Chief Byron Herring believes his investigators know how the fire started.
"No one is sure how the stove got turned on, but we are 100-percent sure that the fire started on it. The burner ignited the grease and that in turn started the kitchen fire. We are not sure who got it started from there," said Herring.
The Coffee County chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the families who've been displaced by the fire.
