This time last year on a trip to Lake Eufaula, I ran into boat owner Bruce Oliver, who had to tow a friend off a sandbar during the drought of 2007. But after talking to him today it seems that at the end of this summer, labor day vacationing is going quite well.
"We’ve got plenty of water now of course you still need to be careful that you don't get too far out of the channel, but there's plenty of water now there's plenty of folks out here even with the high wind"
With sunny skies over Walter. F George, vacationers are drawn from plenty of other regions. Including Rhonda and Jerry Lewis, Jerry a Florida power employee and Rhonda a county EMA worker And they are actually glad to get out of Florida for their vacation.
“Every chance we get we have good weather we try to leave so that we can get away from the phones and now we're in the process of getting ready to go back and see what lies ahead for us this week” Said Jerry, Rhonda sees the busy week ahead.
“We're taking advantage of sleeping in because we worked all last weekend during Tropical Storm Fay. And so we just took our time getting here and actually ran out of crickets the fishing was so good”
With the fish biting and the weather less than favorable in other regions, Eufaula looks to remain a destination well into the end of 2008.
