The Exxon Subs and Plus Station sees its share of vehicles coming in and out each day.
Its owner, Heather Smith, says, "In a day’s time, quite a few. Probably because we have the gas and the subs, so you get everything in one spot. There are times when you can't even get into the parking lot."
Heather Smith and her husband, Bryan, are the owners of Exxon Subs and Plus in Headland. With so much business coming in, they're a bit worried about how it’s going to be come Tuesday morning.
Bryan says, “When they get up to our area, I’m sure it will affect us."
Smith is talking about the resurfacing project that will begin work September 9th on Highway 431. The project is set to begin just inside the circle in Dothan, and continue north into Headland.
Even though the road looks okay from the surface, Alabama Department of Transportation Official, Kenneth Whaley, says resurfacing now could save from further problems.
He says, “The upper layer is beginning to crack and we're trying to redo that, to keep from having further failures in the lower layers of resurfacing."
Even though the repaving project may cut down on some local business during the week, the Smiths say it may bring in even more.
Bryan Smith says, “Maybe we could pick up people that are working with the paving company, we might be able to talk them into coming in and eating lunch with us."
Officials with the Department of Transportation say traffic will most likely be slower than normal, but it shouldn't be bumper to bumper.
However, there will most likely be some roads blocked off. So give yourself a few extra minutes in the morning just to be on the safe side.
Officials say it will take a little more than two months to complete the project.
