The death of a woman in Bay Point yesterday has been ruled accidental.
Fifty-six-year-old Tamera Overton fell from the sixth floor of Lagoon Towers around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Bay County sheriff's investigators responded to the scene and rushed Overton to a local hospital where she died shortly after.
She was a real estate agent, and at the time was inspecting the unit with another agent. The other agent told investigators he left the condo and went downstairs, but when Overton did not follow, he went back to check on her. That's when he discovered she had fallen over the railing.
The medical examiner's office is scheduled to perform an autopsy this afternoon, but investigators say they believe she accidentally fell from a chair on the balcony.
"There was a chair located next to the balcony railing, a type of patio chair that sits up by the top, 2 1/2 feet up. But it sits by the top of the railing, so we're thinking that maybe she possibly stepped up on a chair to do something with the ceiling fan. Because it was a swivel type chair, it could have spun and she possibly could have fallen," said Inv. Doug Pierce.
Investigators say they ruled out suicide from speaking with Overton's family and co-workers. They say Overton had an upcoming trip planned to pick up her twin grandsons from out-of-state, and she was ecstatic about it.
