PELHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Dale County company has landed a big highway construction contract in north Alabama.

Wiregrass Construction Co. of Ariton will soon begin work to widen 5.4 miles of Interstate 65 in Shelby County.

The project, costing $78.4 million, was first announced in 2004.

DOT officials say a section of I-65 will be widened to 8 lanes from Shelby County 52 in Pelham to Valleydale Road in Hoover.

The road work will start in the fall and is scheduled to be completed in July 2011.
