Whether it is from the daily commute, the daily grind and especially in late 2008 financial woes stress can take its toll on your mind. However, can it land you in the emergency room? Medical professionals say absolutely.

"Heart palpitations, hyperventilation acid indigestion all of those are common physical manifestations of stress issues," says Dr. Donald Angle of the Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

From backaches to insomnia to even fertility problems any excessive amount of stress can come back to cause even more issues between you and your well being.

"If they can just step back for a moment and say I'm not having a heart attack and see if this is something stress related then they can manage that problem," says Dr. Angle.

Abigail Holley, a massage therapist at Westwood Say Spa, says she'd be unable to cope with her stress without massage therapy.

"High blood pressure, stress and anxiety any problem that you have, you can go to massage therapy and be benefited by it."

Dr. Angle says overeating might be a short term solution, but in the long run it's not the best way to go. "Overeating can be a symptom of stress and exercise is one of the best ways to handle stress".

In a Journal of the American Medical Association article from last year, physicians outlined some ways to beat everyday stress.

*Incorporate some type of exercise into each day.

*Eat a healthful diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

*Do not smoke.

*Use alcohol only in moderation.

*Quiet time, meditation, prayer, reading, yoga, and relaxation techniques *including biofeedback can help in stress management.

*Family, friends, and fellow workers can provide needed support. *Talking about problems can help to express feelings and reduce conflict.

*If you have heart disease, your doctor may prescribe medication to help lower the heart rate and control abnormal heart rhythms.
