The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in reference to the burglary of an Occupied Dwelling early Tuesday morning.
The incident took place in a home in Callaway after 9 pm Monday night when the family living in the residence went to bed.
The husband awoke at about 12:30 am to discover a door from the garage into the home had been pried open and his wife’s purse stolen from where she left it on the dresser in the master bedroom.
Deputies responded to the home and discovered another door, this one leading from the outside into the garage, had also been pried open.
The victims told investigators the residence had been burglarized twice before but had never reported either incident to law enforcement.
After the last burglary, the victims began to believe a family acquaintance was responsible and confronted Justin Taylor Clark. The victims stated Clark had admitted to the previous burglary.
Clark’s family contacted Clark by cell phone. Once Clark was brought home, investigators spoke with him. Clark stated he had entered the victims’ home and taken the purse.
He had then returned to his home, searched the purse and kept a bottle of prescription pills, about one hundred dollars in cash, and the keys to the victim’s truck.
He discarded the purse in an empty lot next to his home and returned to the victims’ residence and stole the truck out of the driveway. After a trip to Wal Mart, Clark stated he abandoned the truck at the corner of Minneola and HD Sudduth.
Clark was arrested and charged with Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling and Grand Theft Auto.
