A proposed wet-dry referendum item may not make it on the Geneva County November ballot. Tonight, officials are questioning the validity of some of the 2600 petition signatures.
This week, a group backing alcohol sales in Geneva County began placing billboards countywide. Geneva is one of about a dozen counties statewide that are "dry". Recently, Probate Judge Fred Hamic was given a 200-page petition in support of a wet-dry referendum, but Judge Hamic says many of the signatures are not valid.
It'll take 1850 petition signatures.
Judge Hamic says he expects to have an answer later this week on whether the wet-dry referendum can be placed on the Geneva County November ballot.
