The Alabama Public Service Commission decided Tuesday to allow the company to raise rates slightly more than 8 percent for apartments and homes. That takes effect Thursday and it's to help Alabama Power recover higher costs for fuel.
The commission also agreed to increase the monthly connection fee for homes and apartments from $8.91 to $14,50.
With the increases, Alabama Power agreed not to seek another rate hike during all of 2009.
