The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce held its 89th annual meeting Tuesday night at the Dothan Civic Center.

The events featured the passing of the gavel from current "Executive Committee Chairman of the Board” Velma Tribue to Linda Young.

Linda Young is the President of Wallace Community College.

In her final remarks, Tribue spoke about how proud she is that her vision of improving education was taking place in the community.

Linda young says she hopes to continue what Tribue started, and has some new goals to achieve within the community as well.

"I would like to see more work done in the area of leadership, and the continued development of leaders, both in the Chamber and within our area," Young said. "So that will be an area we focus on this coming year."

She also says she would like to see a further commitment to regionalism to spark economic development in the southeast.

The Chamber hosted Dr. Joe Clark as its guest speaker Tuesday night. Dr. Clark is the man famous for using a bullhorn, baseball bat, and the strength of his convictions to improve a drug-ridden, crime-heavy inner city high school.

Dr. Clark has appeared on many television shows, and was a Time magazine cover story.
