Right now its open pastures and wide open land where Southern Angus Farms is located.

But recently the 400 acres was purchased by developer Ronnie Gilley to be the home of the Country Crossing entertainment complex coming to Houston County.

The open land will be turned into themed restaurants, an amphitheater, bingo pavilion, and more as phase one of the Country Crossing.

More important it could bring more jobs to Houston County.

"In the first 18 months there will be approximately 1,800 jobs created," Chairman of the Houston County Commission Mark Culver says. "Ultimately when all phases are finished they are talking about 3,000 jobs. These are people that can go to work whether its their second jobs or their primary jobs."

Owners of nearby fireworks and boat businesses said they thought Country Crossing coming to their neck of the woods is great, and hopes it will boost their business.

R.J. Lawrence lives near the Country Crossing site. He says he hopes the tight-knit community will not be pulled apart because of the 400-acre complex. But he says it will add jobs that are much needed.

"As far as job opportunities, it will provide many that maybe some people haven't had the chance to receive," Lawrence said.

So what is expected to come now that Country Crossing is becoming a reality?

"Motels, retail, apartment complexes, and those types of things are the things that have been talked about," Chairman Culver said Friday.

"Certainly the credit market might have an impact on some of those and slow those down a little bit, but the plans are still there for those to come along with Country Crossing."
