It was a somber day for the family of 26-year-old Brooks Marsh. Instead of planning for the holidays, family members are planning for his funeral.
Jerry Gurski is Marsh' uncle says the murder of his nephew was unnecessary. He said Marsh and two of his friends were at Marsh' home at the time when one of the friends began to leave he asked Marsh for a cup. After he gave the cup to the friend he turned his back and began walking back into his home, which is when, according to Gurski, the suspect open fired at Marsh's back.
"He was very young, he was loved by many and we are extremely sad over the situation and it was just unfortunate," said Gurski.
Neighbors like Paul Jordan and his son Marcus are also stunned by Monday’s incident saying things like this don't happen in their neighborhood.
"We have been here for 30 years…it is the first time something like this has happened," said Jordan. "It doesn't happen in this neighborhood, now, we may have some fusses, some people carrying on, yelling at each other and stuff like that but that's the first time gun shots have been fired that we know of in this neighborhood."
For Gurski and his family, they're taking things one step at a time.
"Right now we're just staying close to the Lord and saying our prayers," said Gurski.
A fund has been set up for Marsh's funeral. If you would like to help the family funds can be donated to the thrash funeral home in Brundidge. 26-year-old Garry Anthony Black is currently in the Pike County Jail with a $100,000 bond.
