It’s known to be one of the most dangerous intersections in Headland and Friday’s accident proved just how deadly it can be.
Headland Police Chief Mark Jones said, "This intersection here has been prone to accidents, we've had numerous accidents here, we've had fatalities here, and it’s a pretty dangerous intersection."
Authorities say this Chevy cobalt and semi truck collided at the intersection of Highway 431 and 134, killing 62-year-old Lessie Lee Reynolds of Abbeville.
"The particulars we don't know at this time, we're just trying to piece everything together."
In the past, there has been talk over the speed limit at the intersection. Many say the speed limit needs to be lowered in that area.
"I do believe that if the speed limit, it’s at sixty-five now, coming through these major intersections, coming through the business part of town on 431, it being lowered back to fifty-five, you would definitely slow the vehicles down and hopefully could result in causing fewer accidents."
A Headland Resident, Greg Edmondson, say they've seen vehicles fly through the intersection far too many times. Regardless of whether speed was a factor in Friday’s fatal wreck some would still like to see the speed limit reduced.
"I think they should, i think they should and not just that, the people and it isn’t just the big trucks and all, it’s the people in the small cars also," said Edmondson.
Authorities say the driver was taken to the southeast Alabama medical center here in Dothan.
However, they say he did not sustain any injuries. Officials say the power is still down at the intersection.
