EPA Tax Could Hurt Local Livestock Farmers
The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing a tax on livestock that could cause farmers to go out of business. The plan would require permit fees based on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that are said to be produced by cows and hogs. I am a third generation farmer and have worked on my family's farm since I coiuld walk. The government has held the farmer over the fire long enough, after all "NO FARM, NO FOOD". it is time that the governmernt find their backbone and stand up to these extremeists. If I had my way I would hike taxes on any person making over $1 million/year and stop all the taxes on the small business, this will stop CEO's from screwing over the small business owner. I think that the EPA is just a bunch of city dwellers that have never touched a pitch fork or a scoop shovel. I have Put in many 16-20 hour days just trying to get the corn in. Just last year we lost $30,000 on the corn, and are hoping that the cattle will save us. we usually put out 200 acres and run 150 cattle.It is rediculous that they want our money if they want more they should get it from those that have more.
These are complete idiots, running the EPA that have never been off the pavement and has never done a hard days work or ever own cattle or other livestock and have no idea what it takes to produce meat or dairy products. I can tell you how to come up with money to fight this GHG problem! Fire the EPA and congressmen and senators and give this money back to the working people that have some common sense!
People from the EPA says that farmers are responsible for the impact their production has on animals and the rest of the planet. The EPA would have to tax the Farmers for their livestock taxing them wont help eliminate the greenhouse effect. There are many more substances out there that give off more methane and chemicals that cause global warming than livestock. Barak Obama's cabinet supports this idea of enforcing this. Obama is try to fix the finicial crisis, but he will only be making it worse by hurting the farmers of the whole world who will be losing any where from $200-$200,000 each year for getting taxed on livestock. Us farmers need to step out and put a stop to this discussion of taxing farmers for the gas produced in livestock.
To the bereaucrats our country has way bigger problems then livestock passing gases. If this is best thing you people can come up with in our offices our country is headed for disaster. What do you think this country was built from? This country isnt being destroyed by our livestock it's being destroyed by the government coming up with these ridiculous ideas. The farmers and ranchers have enough to worry about than someone in our office trying to take more from them. who ever came up with this idea should be ran out of office or where ever they are. This would put every rancher in this country out of there jobs. The government is always coming up with ways to hurt our country and take our "so called freedom" away and help the other countries that we have to worry about shipping goods into our country. Make alot of sense. I don't like to call people stupid but the person that came up with this, well is. Come on people we have to stand up for our rights and country. enough is enough!!!
I found some articles about the EPA regulating DUST under the Clean Air Act. DUST! How long will it take for them to rule peanut farming as illegal, and John Deere tractors as contraband? Seriously folks, our rights are being taken away, inch by inch, day by day. If we become dependent upon other countries for our food supplies, then all our freedoms will vanish.
ok what about all of the wild life out in the woods and the zoos and everyone that has pets are they gonna be taxed as well? Can you say our food now comes from overseas. Do you like that beef from china?
This is absolutely ludicrous. We must keep our Farmers in business so that we will have food to eat. Please write your congressmen and senators. America-"We The People" better wake up and get rid of these bureaucrats who are completely out of their mind and out of touch with reality. Please help us, stand up and fight so that we and our country will remain "FREE'.
Its just another way for Big Brother to bring our country down to the level of third world countries. For some reason they don't understand or don't want to understand, if we can't feed ourselves and become dependant upon other countries our national security becomes vulnerable. And if the truth is know, the money will be in some politicians pocket or sent overseas to help the "poor farmers" in some other country. Give the Farmers a break. In the words of Andy Griffith, "act like you got some smarts".
Oscar, Scott and Linda among others are correct. We need to call Willie to the rescue again and more prople need to take action. Meat will be outragiosly priced if we can get it at all. They ban it all let other countries use it and then ship it back. Leave our farmers alone for healthy foods. Start bottling YOUR methane gas you idiots in office
This is ridiculous. It will make imported meats, which do not have such a tax, more competitive. Just another industry shuttled out of the US. We NEED our US farmers, food is expensive enuf!!!!

The need to tax cows and hogs because of the methane gas pollution is wrong. The EPA in their infinite wisdom needs to be finding a way to use this gas to help the energy crisis. Are HUMANS going to be taxed for their methane gas pollution?
The people we have elected have lost their minds. The farmer can not afford this! Who do you think feeds us? We have to have farmers to eat! Wake up people, between the tax hikes, rising prices and all the crap taking place, do you want to hand over our country to whoever decides to take over, sounds like between more taxes, defense budget cuts you want America to fall!!!! Wake up and fight for our country, our way of life, our freedom. Keep the American farmer in business>
farmers are already paying a hefty tax on feed for their animals & now our government wants to increase their tax?? this is unbelievable - I am sure the EPA is aware of the consequences of this action. The consumers will pay in the long run as always.
My husband has been raising cattle for almost 50 years and this is absolutely ridiculous. The government is once again trying to run our farmers out of business and our food will be produced out of this country without any regulations.
