Thanks were the theme on Friday afternoon as numerous volunteers in the NAACP and Salvation Army loaded up and was on their way to provide some holiday food to those who might not be able to get it on their own.
"Some of them are just so happy and grateful for whatever is given to them it makes me feel wonderful to be blessed and to be able to bless them,” said Nora Parker.
The group helped to provide food to 455 Wiregrass residents Friday. Volunteers each had folders of elderly recipients, picked up their food and made trips all over the area.
They were ringing doorbells, knocking on doors, and were greeted by friendly smiles.
The program obtains information about people who may be in need through churches and word of mouth. The friendly callers get their name by making calls to check on people all year to make sure they are well, but this time of year is special.
Gary Griffin said, "The feeling that people have about Christmas overall, they believe in God and they do believe that we should help one another."
