New security measures went into effect at one Wiregrass courthouse. Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward says it's unfortunately but reflects the sign of the times.
Retired Alabama highway patrol trooper Bernest Tyson is now the security officer at the Geneva County courthouse.
Those entering the building must walk through a metal-detector. All knives or other weapons must be left at the front desk until the owner leaves the facility.
Except for the main door, all other entrances to the 45-year-old building have been locked.
Geneva is one of the last of Alabama’s 67-counties to implement the metal detection entry into the courthouse.
